I have completed three different projects in my village to improve our quality of life. We installed solar lighting for 8 houses in 2001 donated by my friend Prof. Dr. Ing. Jorgen Maskow and the Lions Club of Luneburg Germany. The professor kindly replaced this for the village in 2008. I have also completed a drinking water project for 14 houses and installed a plant nursery for new trees. This was donated by Mr. Michael Prochno of Kaufbeuren Germany in January 2009.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY |
|
| |
This report contains detailed feasibility study of “Molung Khola MHP”,
which is prepared from the field survey, detailed design and estimated. The
proposed scheme is located at 2350 m AMSL in Patle VDC, Kholakharka of
Okhaldhunga district. It lies in the eastern region of Nepal. The project site is
located at 2 days walking distance from Sirse-Ramechhap. This report is the
final outcome of the technical and socio economic aspect of the field survey
and interaction during the meetings with Molung Khola MHP users
committee and villagers. |

The Molung Khola MHP is found to be feasible technically, economically and
socially as well. The site for the scheme is in stable region and hence the
components of the scheme do not need any major protection measures.
Molung Khola Micro Hydro Project is a run of river type scheme. It is a
perennial river, which has a catchments area of 21.57 km2. The consultant’s
survey team measured the discharge of 1185 lps on the date 06 January, 2009.
The lowest flow in the Molung Khola based on MIP is 392.12 lps, the 11-
month exceedance flow will be 541.13 lps. And 455.00 lps is taken as a
design discharge for the proposed MHP. The available head is 20.76 m and
taking overall efficiency 60 %, the plant capacity is 55 kW. |

The headrace canal is 355.3 m long from the intake. From the headrace canal
the flow is directed towards the settling basin, which is designed to settle the
particles of size greater than 0.3 mm. The size of the Settling Basin is
12.0mx3.0m (internal dimension) with suitable inlet and outlet zone and
spillway is provided to discharge the excess flow and flushing flow back to
the river. From forebay the flow enters into Mild Steel penstock having 480
mm diameter and 5 mm wall thickness. The penstock is supported by supports
piers and anchor blocks along the 43 m lengths. The penstock pipe conveys
the flow to turbine where the flow is controlled by the butterfly valve. The
powerhouse is situated at stable area. The size of synchronous generator is
110 Kva. The electricity generated will be transmitted and distributed using
step up and step down transformers. Steel poles are used for transmission and
distribution. All together there are 643 households in the electrification area
and the power subscription is 86 watts per households. The power
consumption in the village is 55000 watts |

The total cost of the project without VAT is Nrs.24,264,648.01 and with
VAT is 26,629,791.98. The cost per KW is Nrs. 484,178.04 including local
cost. Incase of excluding local cost, per kw cost is Nrs 356,056.07. Similarly
the cost per hh is Nrs. 41,414.92. Now, there is no provision of Value Added
Tax in policy for the non-local cost in case of micro hydro from government
side but in this study total cost is calculated with VAT and without VAT also.
The financial analysis of the scheme shows that the IRR of 49.82 %, Benefit
Cost (B/C) Ratio is 1.70 and the NPV is NRs 4,670,777.46 (at 6 % discount
rate). |
